What Makes Warmzone’s Design and Support Services the Industry’s Best?

Unmatched Support and Design Services – Reasons why Warmzone Heated Driveway Systems are Better than any Other

When shopping for a radiant snow melting, floor heating, or roof deicing system, there are several factors to take into consideration to ensure that you install the best system for your needs and that it will perform the way that you want it to. With so many options out there, it can be difficult for homeowners to narrow down the field of potential system providers. So when it comes to installing a heated driveway or floor, what are the key factors to look for? What factors distinguish one system over another?

Certainly you’ll want reputable, proven system components. For a heated driveway / snow melting system this includes the heating element (cable), snow sensor, and the contactor panel or controller. A quality system begins with quality components. This is an area in which Warmzone excels.

Snow melting system heat cable and components

But a few providers may offer some components of similar quality. So, to further separate the “great” from the “good”, we need to take some other factors into consideration. If you’re sure that you’ve found the highest quality system components, you’ll next need to find out what services are included with those quality components. What role will your provider play in regards to the installation of those top quality components?

Genuine Customer Service versus Customer Service Hype

When it comes to service, too many radiant heat system providers deliver lip service rather than genuine customer service. Few businesses have a trained, dedicated support staff, so installers often end up speaking with sales people or whoever else happens to be free at the time of the call. But radiant heat customers deserve better. Great customer service not only means friendly, technical installation support, but includes accurate system design and layout services.

Example of a snow melting system design drawing.

It is vital that you have a detailed layout of your system. This not only includes a “road map” of how your heating cable is laid out, but also where and how it is wired to the contactor panel and activation device (snow sensor). The system layout must be created by an experienced designer and electrical expert. Professional system designs should also contain all the technical information for your electrician. Every aspect of the snow melting system should be included so that your electrician and installer know every detail prior to installing any heat cable.

Warmzone offers an AutoCAD drawing of the layout with all the technical information necessary to move forward with the installation. System layouts should include proper layout and materials, proper load calculations, breaker sizes, number of breakers, etc. We make sure that your installer and electrician have all the information necessary to begin the install with confidence. And that includes free installation training.

Honestly, what makes Warmzone Different?

Warmzone’s pre- and post sales support is unmatched. We won’t abandon you after the sale. We answer your questions, evaluate your project needs and then assist you before, during, and after the installation. Here are some specifics that identify why we’re so different:

Pre-sales system design – Warmzone provides pre-sales system design services. This is offered to ensure that the system meets all of your requirements. There’s no need to purchase a system and then worry whether it will perform adequately for your specific application and layout. If you choose to move forward with the purchase, Warmzone will include an AutoCAD layout at your request.

Free Installation Training – Knowing how vital the proper installation is, Warmzone provides free installation training for installers and electricians. We’ll cover all the aspects of your specific installation, and we’ll be available if you have any questions during the install. This training is invaluable for installers and a great benefit to homeowners.

Technical Support – While installing a radiant heating system is relatively easy, and the installation manual covers all aspects of the install, sometimes it still helps to talk with an expert. Warmzone has a dedicated staff of support personnel available to answer your call. If an installer or electrician has questions during the installation, he/she can call and speak with an expert who will work with them to resolve the issue at hand.

Programming the Controller – We assist in programming the controller based on ASHRAE standards. (The settings depend on the ASHRAE standards mandated for the specific area where your system is installed.)

Commissioning Large Systems for Service – Warmzone support experts are also available to assist customers in the startup and commissioning of large systems for service. For example, for a heated runaway truck ramp in the Northeastern U.S., a Warmzone expert not only provided technical support onsite, but commissioned the system after the installation to ensure optimum performance.

Special Equipment – On rare occasions, an installer’s helper may accidentally damage the cable during the installation, but then not mention it so as to avoid repercussions. Then the concrete is poured but the system doesn’t perform as it should. Warmzone has the equipment to locate and repair the cable fault, so there’s no need to tear up a large portion of the driveway. This is a service that few – if any – other providers offer.

Large heated paver driveway

Warmzone installation experts are available to walk installers through the installation process, and they continue to be available after the system is installed. This ensures that all the customer’s questions are answered and the automated system is ready for the first snowfall.

Warmzone focuses on the long term goal of making customers happy rather than just selling snow melting systems. For customers to be satisfied, they need to be treated with respect and work with a friendly support staff that goes the extra mile. With our staff, we can provide consumers with expertise and genuine, personal support services that make them feel more like a partner than a customer.

Warmzone Slab Heating Cable

Warmzone’s In-Slab Floor Heating Cable is Tops in Efficiency

If you’re looking for a way to efficiently, effectively heat concrete floors, In-slab radiant heat cable is much less expensive than hydronic radiant heat and much more effective. Designed for installation in new concrete slab applications, this cable can heat a variety of surfaces quickly, from carpet to tile, hardwood and more.

By its very nature, in-slab heat systems require less upfront investment, are much easier to install and feature much quicker response times. Consider hydronic systems–they’ve been around the longest, and are definitely a reliable source of heat. However, these systems rely on a boiler and a network of pex tubing to heat concrete surfaces, making their installation and configuration much more labor and cash intensive. A boiler is also required to heat the water first, before pumping it through a series of pex tubes embedded in the concrete, resulting in a significant pause before the water is warm enough to generate any heat.

Radiant heated floor and roll of In-Slab floor heating cable

Conversely, In-slab radiant heat cables are controlled by a technologically advanced, easy-to-used thermostat with a built in GFCI and an in-floor sensor. And radiant heat cables do not share the same rigidity in design and installation as hydronic Pex tubing does. Extremely bendable, electric radiant heating cable can be bent to fit into tight spots and can be installed to fit the most challenging spaces. Once installed, a turn (or pre-programming) of the thermostat dial allows the system to generate heat within just a few minutes.

Durable, rugged and waterproof, In-slab heating cable is designed to work under a variety of surfaces, wet or dry. The cable produces 10-15 watts per square foot of concrete surface, making it equally perfect for small, custom, residential applications and large commercial jobs. Quick activation times and heat storage within the concrete slab also end up saving you money in the long run. The In-Slab heating system is one of the most efficient floor heating systems available.

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, choosing electric radiant heat over a hydronic system can also save you some hand-wringing and a few bucks to boot. Laying out of series of Pex tubing for a hydronic system requires some serious planning and coordination as the pipes are assembled, connected and sealed. In addition to In-Slab heat cable that is provided on spools, floor heating cable is also available in easy-to-roll-out mats that can be installed directly under the flooring. Visit Warmzone’s ComfortTile floor heating web pages to learn more about this electric radiant heat cable that can be purchased right off of the spool or in pre-configured mats. It’s another industry leading floor heating solution that can be used to heat a variety of floor surfaces.

Why Warmzone’s Self-Regulating Heat Cable is a Cut Above the Competition

Banish Snow and Ice from your Roof and Gutters, and Protect Pipes with the Industry’s Top Self-Regulating Heat Trace Cable

With sub-zero temperatures upon us, the last thing most of us want to do is fool around with manual outdoor snow and ice removal. As the temperatures maintain their frosty grip on much of the country, installing a radiant heat solution for your roof, gutters and pipes is a wise, potentially cost-savings move. Featuring a superior outer jacket and carbon core, making installation in frigid conditions possible, Warmzone self-regulating cable truly is the best choice.

What makes Warmzone’s self-regulating cable unique? The outer jacket of other leading brands of heat cable tends to “bubble” or separate from the cable core when the cable is manipulated for turns. These irregularities create stress points on the cable that allow water to reach the core, causing erratic heating and eventual cable failure. To better illustrate this point, consider the photos shown. At a bend radius of about 2 inches, the outer jacket of other popular heating cables bubbles and pulls away from the core, creating a visible stress point prone to water seepage and eventual failure.

Comparing heat trace cable bending radius

At a bend radius of 1½ inches, the outer jacket of the Warmzone cable is smooth, showing no signs of bubbling. The durable outer jacket is more flexible, so it minimizes “puckering”, even at a tight bend radius. These performance differences are extremely important in applications where tight cable manipulation is critical, including gutters, roofs and pipe tracing.

Warmzone self-regulating heat cable can also be installed at much lower temperatures than most, and that’s critical if you’re in a region prone to colder conditions and in need of a solution right now. That’s because the minimum installation temperature for most self-regulating heat cables is 32 – 40°F. At temperatures lower than this, the carbon becomes brittle and prone to breaking when bent or manipulated; and the outer jacket of most competitive cables also tends to stiffen, making it difficult to safely install in cold weather.

Warmzone self-regulating heat trace cable with durable outer jacket

The high quality carbon center of Warmzone’s self-regulating radiant heating cable is much more resilient, and can withstand installation temperatures as low as 0°F, making them a safe bet for installation in some rather frosty conditions. Factor in the flexibility of the outer jacket in the same weather and you can expect easier installation and more reliable performance.

If you’ve decided on Warmzone radiant heating cable, perhaps the hardest sell is finding the right installation team for the job on short notice. Warmzone can help with that too. They’ve forged deep relationships with wholesalers and general contractors across the country to deliver the most advanced, reliable snow melting solutions around, and they’re a great resource for installation support. Just give them a call at 888.488.9276 and discover how Warmzone can keep ice off the roof, out of the gutter and away from your pipes.

Of Water and Wires: Hydronic Heated Driveways vs. Electric Heated Driveways

‘Ride the Current’ or ‘Go With the Flow’?

If you’ve finally put down the shovel and decided to purchase a heated driveway system, will you be going hydronic or electric? If you’re a newcomer to the concept of driveway heating, hydronic and electric are both popular, and extremely viable forms of driveway heat, and Warmzone has the expertise, and experience, to help determine which is best for you. What these systems share in common—four key components you should be familiar with before purchasing a heated driveway system:

  • The Heating Element (Embedded in the driveway)
  • Snow Sensor
  • Power Controller Unit (Powers the heating elements on and off)
  • Power Supply (Circuit breaker panel)

Of the components mentioned above, the heating element and the control source distinguish hydronic heated driveway systems from electric heated driveway systems.

Hydronic Heated Driveway Systems: Going with the Flow
The heating element for a hydronic snowmelt system, as you may have guessed, involves water. Specifically, hydronic heated driveways use what is known as closed-loop tubing to heat the surface of the driveway. The tubing is generally made of a flexible (and quite durable) polymer or synthetic rubber to circulate a mixture of hot water and propylene glycol (antifreeze). The fluid is warmed to temperatures between 140 to 180 degrees F to deliver enough heat for snow melting.

Heated driveway with brick pavers

A water heater or a boiler is the chief source of heat for a hydronic driveway heating system, which can be powered by any energy source that satisfies the btu requirements, including natural gas, electricity, oil, wood, or even solar collectors. A circulating pump and supply and return manifolds, installed in an easily accessible location, transfer the water between the heat source and tubing.

Electric Heated Driveway Systems: Riding the Current
Unlike hydronic systems, electric heated driveway systems use hot wires to heat paved surfaces. These wires are surrounded by layers of insulation, copper grounding braid and a protective outer layer of PVC or polyolefin to form a flexible cable about ⅛ to ¼ inch in diameter. What’s great about the heat cables is the flexibility of the application. Cable is available on spools as well as pre-spaced and woven into mats, and can be customized (cut) to suit virtually any type of layout, including odd-shaped driveways, common walkways and sidewalks, etc.

After being triggered by the snow sensor, the control unit then powers the heat cable to warm the driveway. To reduce the power demands (and operating costs), you can install cables in just the tire tracks of a driveway rather than the entire area. Warmzone provides complete system design services to ensure that you receive the best system layout and products for your project.
