Floor Heating Winners

Radiant floor heat offers clean, energy efficient, maintenance-free warmth. In addition to offering next-level comfort, these are just some of the benefits that have new builders installing these systems in record numbers. The flexibility of these systems gives builders a wide variety of custom options for both residential and commercial applications. The systems can be easily customized to meet the specific heating – and budget – needs of each customer.

In addition to heating entire homes, radiant heat can be easily tailored to complement one’s existing traditional heating system. Floor heating systems can be installed to add unmatched comfort to your favorite rooms, or warm trouble spots in your home that are notoriously difficult to heat. The systems grant homeowners with tremendous options for installing a precise and efficient means for optimizing comfort in the home.

While the features, performance and environmentally friendly aspects of radiant heat contribute to its surging popularity, one must also be aware that not all radiant floor heating systems are created equal. In fact, it may come as a surprise to some homeowners that there are so many different types of floor heating systems and technologies (such as electric and hydronic). But fear not; you don’t have to feel overwhelmed.

The floor heating options are easy to evaluate, and the variety helps to ensure that you’ll have the best solution for heating your specific floor type and layout. Having one of the largest selections of floor heating systems in the business, Warmzone® can ensure that each customer is matched with the ideal solution for their home. We offer free consultation, so feel free to call and learn more about the available systems. And rest assured that Warmzone carries only the most trusted and proven floor heating systems.

When determining which floor heating system is best for your home, the choice is influenced by the type of floor that you have. For example, if you’re looking to heat a floating floor, one of the most popular and highly recommended solutions is FilmHeat™. This innovative floor heating system utilizes a near paper-thin heating element (just 0.016-inch thick) that is laid out over the underlayment on the subfloor, and then the flooring is installed over the element. No alarms, special tools, or self-leveling compounds are needed.

The system does not require mortar or adhesives, so there is virtually no floor buildup, and the heating element can be easily cut onsite. FilmHeat is designed specifically for installation under floating floors, but the versatile element can also be used to heat other floor types. (Talk to a floor heating expert to learn more.) A variation of the FilmHeat system (RetroHeat®) uses a similar heating element that can be installed between the floor joists to heat existing floors. The heating panels are stapled up between the joists and then Batt insulation is installed to direct all the heat upward to warm the floor. This is the most affordable option for heating floors without having to conduct any major remodeling.

Warmzone’s most popular electric floor heating system is the ComfortTile® system. The ComfortTile floor heating system is perhaps the most versatile, but is designed especially for heating ceramic tile, vinyl tile, marble, and stone floors. This proven system utilizes thin heat resistance cable that is available in individual lengths off the spool, or pre-spaced in mats that can be rolled out for quick, convenient installation. ComfortTile mats feature thin heat cable that is pre-spaced and affixed to a flexible mesh with an adhesive backing. The mat can be quickly rolled out over the area to be heated and secured to the subfloor. The mats are available in a variety of lengths, and are 18-inches wide and pre-terminated for use with 120V and 240V. The twin-conductor heating cable is made with premium materials, enabling ComfortTile heat cable to provide superior floor heating performance and fast response times. As one of the most versatile floor heating systems, ComfortTile can be effectively used to heat a wide range of other floors and various applications. This trusted floor heating cable also carries a 25-year warranty.

In-Slab™ heat cable is another popular option for those looking to efficiently heat basement floors and concrete slabs. This rugged cable is thicker than other floor heating cable because it is designed for installation during concrete pours. The cable is positioned in the area to be heated, and concrete is then applied. The In-Slab heat cable should remain about 2-inches from the surface of the concrete. Any type of flooring can then be installed over the concrete floor. This is one of the most affordable, and effective ways to heat cold basement floors, or any floors on concrete slabs.

Floor heating systems that use thin heat cable (I.e. ComfortTile) can also be used with a membrane system, such as Prodeso®. Prodeso membrane is an uncoupling and waterproofing system used for heating floors and other surfaces without expansion joints in the screed. The flexible membrane has pre-engineered grooves for the heat cable, and is laid out directly over the subfloor before the tile or other flooring is installed. The Prodeso underlayment membrane, heat cable and flooring can be installed the same day. The floor heating system has a minimal floor buildup of less than ¼-inch.

Warmzone offers several other types of floor heating systems, including low-voltage floor heating systems, hydronic (water-based) systems, and more. For more details about the many proven options that are available, call and speak with a floor heating expert today, at 888.488.9276.

Radiant Heat – Efficient, Convenient, and Reliable

Most people agree that technology provides our world with convenience and a host of other benefits. For the most part, it can help to organize and simplify our lives. Granted, there are times when the learning curve can dish out some frustration, or we encounter a few potholes in the technology superhighway, but overall, we love our technology, and it’s here to stay.

One popular technology that has proven itself – and continues to grow in popularity – is that of radiant heating. Radiant heat systems are used to keep driveways, sidewalks, and roofs clear of snow and ice, as well as provide the most energy efficient means for heating homes and businesses.

A radiant snow melting system installed in a paver driveway.

Snow Melting Systems

Maintenance Free and Fully Automated

Radiant driveway heating systems are maintenance free, exceptionally versatile, and also fully automated. The systems utilize a small activation device (snow sensor) that detects temperature and moisture, so when weather conditions warrant, the sensor signals the control panel, and power is then sent to the embedded heating element. The driveway begins warming to prevent snow and ice from building up. After the snowstorm, the system shuts off automatically. However, it remains on for a few minutes after snow has stopped falling to dry the surface to keep thin sheets of dangerous “black ice” from forming. This is another safety feature provided by radiant snow melting systems. Heated driveway systems also feature manual override capability, so if wind blows snow on your driveway you can activate the system to melt the snow drift.

Easy to Customize

Automated snow melting systems can be installed to heat virtually any type of layout and application, including concrete, pavers, and asphalt. Each heated driveway system is carefully tailored so that it best meets the precise needs of the business or homeowner. In addition to matching each system with the layout and performance needs of the customer, Warmzone systems are also designed to accommodate the customer’s budget. The custom options of radiant heat are virtually limitless.

Asphalt driveway with heated tire tracks

While each snow melting system is unique, some popular general configurations include the following:

Heated tire tracks – Instead of heating the entire driveway surface, many homeowners choose to install two 24-inch wide heated tire tracks. This option not only can result in lower installation costs, but because less area is being heating, the operational costs are also reduced.

Heat an 8-foot wide strip – Some homeowners also choose to only heat an 8-foot wide strip in the middle of the driveway.

Heat specific areas – Some homeowners opt to only heat the problem areas of their driveway. For example, there may be a small section that is mostly shaded, where packed snow and ice may remain for months. Or perhaps the driveway has a section with a steeper incline. Electric radiant heat systems can be easily installed in these specific areas to enhance safety and convenience.

In addition to offering superior systems and components, Warmzone also includes industry-leading customer support and services. Perhaps the service most appreciated by contractors is that of FREE installation training.

Each training course covers the specifics of the installers’ project. The training is typically completed in less than an hour, but attendees can ask questions and proceed at their own pace. This is a valuable service that ultimately saves time in the long run.

Although the training covers all aspects of the installation, sometimes unforeseen problems or questions may arise during the install. That’s why Warmzone’s dedicated support staff is on hand. Our experts are available to field calls from installers and answer any questions they may have.

In addition to the personal training and support services, Warmzone also provides professional system design and layout services. The detailed AutoCAD drawings cover every aspect of the layout and electrical plan, so the installation laborers and electrician have all the information they need at their fingertips.

Floor Heating Systems; What’s the Difference?

A Guide to Finding the Best Radiant Heat System for Your Home or Business

As growing numbers of consumers search for clean, renewable-energy heating solutions, more home and business owners are turning to radiant heat. Being the most efficient heating technology available, the benefits of installing a radiant heat system are tough to deny. Not only is radiant floor heating growing in popularity, but energy-efficient driveway heating systems are also becoming more popular. The efficiency and reliability of radiant heat have made it a logical choice for new construction, as well as remodeling applications.

Certainly, radiant heat has earned its rise to the top of home heating and snow melting options. Given the public’s emphasis on clean, renewable heating sources, radiant heat is becoming commonplace in new construction projects. Naturally, the increasing demand for interior and exterior radiant heat systems has resulted in a proliferation of radiant heat products and system providers. But what products are best? What should consumers be looking for? How does one differentiate one floor heating system from another?

Heated floor and a heated driveway.

Whether you’re looking to install a heated driveway, a radiant floor heating system, or a roof de-icing system, be sure to work with an established provider. You’ll want to deal with people who have a lot of experience designing and providing radiant heat systems. You’re making a significant investment, so you’ll want to deal with professionals who have been around the block a few times. And you’ll want to have a provider who also provides complete system design and installation support. But why are there so many different types of heated floors?

Because there is a wide variety of flooring options for homeowners, it only follows that there are several different types of floor heating systems. The key is to match your floor heating system with your flooring. Some floor heating systems are designed to heat tile floors, while others are better suited for warming hardwood or floating floors. The type of subfloor you have as well as the insulation (if any) can also impact the performance of your radiant floor heating system. Speak with a Warmzone floor heating expert to learn more about your options.

As a leading provider of radiant heat solutions, Warmzone offers a wide range of proven floor heating systems. One of the most popular, and versatile, is the ComfortTile floor heating cable and mats. ComfortTile features thin heat cable that is available off the spool as well as pre-spaced in mats, and is one of the most popular floor heating systems on the market. The ComfortTile system is typically the best choice for heating tile, stone and luxury vinyl tile floors. The Prodeso membrane system can also be used in conjunction with the ComfortTile cable. This ensures ideal cable spacing and offers protection from shifting and cracking, and provides waterproofing for the substrate in the case of overlaying on cracked or imperfectly cured floors with a risk of vapor stress.

Dealing with Snow Removal

The Joy of Winter

Keeping driveways and walks clear of snow and ice during the winter months is never any fun. While homeowners shovel their driveway and walks for convenience and added safety, snow removal is an absolute necessity for business owners. Keeping the premises safe – and inviting – for prospective customers is vital to their businesses.

While some business owners pay a snow removal service or task employees to shovel and salt the walks and parking areas, many are turning to automated snow melting systems. These radiant snow melting systems are maintenance free, and can keep entire areas clear of snow and ice 24/7.

Heated driveway systems are designed to activate as the first snowflake falls. When precipitation is detected and the temperature is below a designated set point (usually 38 or 39 degrees), the sensor signals the snow melting system’s controller, and power is then sent to the embedded heating cable. The heating element quickly warms the driveway (or sidewalk, steps, ramp, etc.) to prevent snow from accumulating.

As an industry-leading provider and designer of radiant snow melting systems, Warmzone utilizes the trusted ClearZone heating cable. The cable can be embedded in concrete, installed under pavers, and even in hot asphalt applications. The cable is available in custom lengths off the spool or pre-spaced in easy-to-install mats. The mats feature cable in 3- and 4- inch spacing (and custom spacing upon request). The ClearZone heating mats can be quickly rolled out and secured over the area to be heated, and then embedded in concrete, asphalt, or pavers. The mats facilitate the installation and ensure proper cable spacing.

Heated Driveway Retrofit
In addition to installing radiant heat in new construction applications, existing driveways can also be retrofitted with radiant heat. For example, in a concrete driveway, saw-cut technology can be used to create channels in the driveway, whereby heat cable is then inserted. An epoxy topcoat is then applied to seal the cable, allowing consumers to enjoy the benefits of a heated driveway at relatively little cost. For added traction and safety, a sand broadcast can be applied to the surface before the epoxy cures if desired.

Asphalt driveways can also be easily retrofitted with radiant heat. ClearZone heat cable is laid out over the existing driveway, and a fresh layer of asphalt is then applied. This is a popular option for homeowners with asphalt driveways.

Each Warmzone driveway heating system is designed according to ASHRAE standards. This ensures that every system is customized specifically to meet the weather conditions and snow melting demands of the customer. Average snowfall and temperatures, and other factors specific to the locale are taken into consideration. For example, a heated driveway in Tehachapi, California will be different from one designed for Juno, Alaska.

Fully Automated and Efficient
Radiant snow melting systems efficiently operate only when needed. However, after the snowstorm, the system is designed to remain on for a short time to dry the surface area so that no black ice develops. This added safety feature is a Godsend to business owners, keeping parking areas, walkways, and entryways free of thin sheets of slick ice.

In addition to eliminating the costs associated with manual snow removal, automated snow melting systems ensure that when business opens in the morning after an unexpected snowstorm, the sidewalks, loading docks, ramps, etc., will be clear. Customers will have a safe, clear entryway to the business.

Home Heating with Radiant Heat

Radiant Heat – the Most Efficient Heating Technology Today

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), prices for heating homes with fuels from natural gas to heating oil have risen to multiyear highs. With the demand for energy outpacing the growth in supply, homeowners can now expect to see a significant increase in their monthly heating bills this winter. In fact, with nearly half of U.S. households relying on natural gas for heat, those homeowners can expect an average cost increase of 30 percent this year when compared to last year’s cold months.

With rising costs, it’s important for heating systems to be as efficient as possible. Traditional forced-air systems are the most common heating solution, but unfortunately, they are notoriously inefficient. Advances have been made in furnace technology, yet still, the best systems boast an efficiency of only 80 to 90 percent.

Given the impending increase in home heating expenses, today’s homeowners are focusing on more efficient ways to heat the home – as well as ways to supplement their current heating system. If an alternate heating method also produces an increase in comfort, so much the better.

Whether you’re looking for comfort or efficiency, or both, radiant heat fits the bill. As the most efficient technology for heating homes and businesses today, radiant heat is fast becoming the heating system of choice for new homeowners, as well as commercial buildings.

ComfortTile floor heating system installed under tile floor

Ninety-nine percent of the energy used for heating floors translates directly into heat. No other heating technology comes close to matching this efficiency. And the comfort produced by a radiant floor heating system is rich and luxurious. One must experience radiant heat to fully appreciate its splendor.

Not all floor heating systems are created equal. Some are designed for heating hardwood floors, while others are designed for heating tile, or vinyl tile or laminate flooring. Feel free to call and speak with a floor heating expert at Warmzone. We will gladly go over all the options and suggest the systems that would be best for heating your home – without any pushy sales pressure.

As an industry leader, Warmzone offers one of the largest selections of radiant floor heating solutions on the market. Our heating elements range from thin heat cable and mats to paper-thin panels, flexible low-voltage polymer panels, in-slab heating cable, and even systems that can be installed under existing floors. The thin panels are installed between the floor joists, allowing homeowners to add warmth to rooms without tearing up the current flooring.

Despite the varied electric and hydronic (water based) systems that Warmzone offers, all the electric floor heating systems offer specific benefits. These systems operate silently, are maintenance free, and significantly more energy efficient. Radiant heating systems also offer health benefits that can be important for the elderly and those with allergies. Traditional forced-air heating systems blow warm air through a series of ducts, circulating dust and allergens throughout the house. Because radiant heat operates silently, heating the home from the floor up, there is no need for vents and a blower. Radiant heated homes have significantly less dust and allergens circulating through the house.

With multiple floor heating options for a variety of applications and mediums, finding the right choice can be tough for homeowners. But that’s why we’re here. At Warmzone we are dedicated to providing the absolute best customer service in the industry. Not only does that mean free installation training, technical support, and professional system design services, but our free consulting is available so you can feel comfortable with your decision. Take your time, talk with the pros and discover the best system for meeting your heating needs and budget.

Warmzone offers several payment methods, including financing options ranging from no interest, deferred interest, and reduced interest programs. The payment and financing options are designed to give customers a wide range of choices that best suit their needs while allowing them to purchase the radiant heat system of their dreams now.   If you’re thinking about adding a radiant floor heating system to your home or business, visit our floor heating web pages and call a friendly radiant heat expert today at 888-488-9276.

How to Avoid Common Heated Driveway Installation Mistakes

Automated radiant snow melting systems can keep driveways, sidewalks, steps, ramps, and more free of snow and ice during the cold winter months. The systems are designed to detect temperature and precipitation, so when weather conditions warrant, the system activates. The surface is then warmed to prevent snow from accumulating. After the snowstorm the system remains on for a short time to dry the area so that slick sheets of “black” ice don’t form.

Although the installation of these systems is relatively simple and straightforward, there are still some common mistakes made by installers. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to avoid common blunders and ensure a timely, proper installation so that your radiant heating system meets all your expectations. Most installation mistakes can be avoided simply by taking advantage of Warmzone’s comprehensive installation support services.

Ways to Ensure a Proper Installation

Take advantage of Warmzone’s Industry-Leading Support Services

Perhaps the biggest mistake installers make is not taking Warmzone’s free installation training courses. This valuable training is provided by an experienced instructor who will cover all the aspects of your installation. This is a great way to learn the basics of installing automated snow melting systems, and can help you avoid mistakes that could adversely affect the performance and longevity of the system. The courses are available online via web conference and are typically completed in less than an hour. However, installers can stop and ask the instructor questions at any time during the training.

Mesh-Ups under remesh, to support the heat cable
Snow melting heat cable secured to remesh with Mesh-Ups, which are used to prevent the cable from resting on the ground.

Another way to help ensure a proper installation is to follow the professional system design and layout provided by Warmzone. Unfortunately, it’s all too common for installers to fail to follow the professional system design and layout given to them. Warmzone provides detailed layouts of the system to install, which includes the precise layout of the heating elements, materials and components, and dimensions of the system, as well as the proper load calculations, breaker sizes, number of breakers, and so on. Be sure to refer to the AutoCAD layout frequently as you install the system. These professional system layouts serve as the “road map” to a successful installation, helping to ensure that the system operates at peak efficiency after being installed.

Warmzone products and snow melting system components are second to none; however, even the best components cannot overcome improper installation techniques. So take advantage of the free training, system layout, and other support services offered by Warmzone. Our installation support staff is the best in the business, and we stand ready to assist you at any time during the installation. To learn more about installing radiant driveway heating systems, call Warmzone today at 888-488-9276.

Avoid Making These Common Installation Mistakes

To make turns with the mats, cut the tape backing and arrange the mat accordingly. (See the illustration below. Never cut the cable.)

Making turns with radiant heating mats.
Cut the tape backing and then arrange the heating mat accordingly to make the desired turn. (Avoid damaging the heat cable.)

Periodically Test the Heat Cable. Be sure to conduct OHM tests of the cable before and throughout the installation process. Write the results on the warranty card provided. (Follow the instructions in the Installation Manual to ensure that your warranty remains valid.)

Check Your Components Prior to Beginning the Installation. Prior to applying the concrete, asphalt or pavers, lay your heat cable out in the area to be heated and make sure you have the right amount of cable. Also, in concrete applications, always secure the heat cable to the remesh at regular intervals. Use Mesh-Ups® support chairs to keep the remesh from resting on the ground during the pour.

Refer to the Appropriate Installation Documentation. Always follow the instructions listed in the installation manual.

Make sure the splice and at least 6 inches of the power lead is embedded in the paved surface.

Embedding the cable splice

Install the Snow Sensor in a Proper Location. Surprisingly, this is a common mistake. Never mount the sensor next to a wall or in an area where it is not exposed to the weather. When installing an aerial-mount snow sensor (WS-2C, WS-5C) make sure it is mounted above the roof line. It must have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the sky to properly detect falling snow. Any nearby obstructions can prevent snow from falling onto the sensor, delaying or preventing it from triggering the system.

Never run Heat Cable (or mats) Through an Expansion Joint. All heating cable should be isolated to a single pour area.

Use the Proper Equipment. Do not use sharp metal trowels and shovels when tamping or spreading the concrete over the radiant heating cable. Great care must be taken to avoid damaging the outer jacket of the snow melting cable.

Never cut the Heat Cable. When making turns with the heating mats, only cut the tape backing, and then arrange the mat accordingly for the turn.

Heated tire tracks in driveway

Do not Allow the Heat Cable to rest on the Ground Prior to Applying Concrete. The cable should be elevated so that it is within about 2-inches of the driveway surface. Small plastic Mesh-Ups® support chairs can be fastened to the remesh, providing support and preventing the heat cable from being pushed to the ground.

The ideal time to install radiant heat is during new construction. However, driveways can also be retrofitted with radiant snow melting systems. Saw-cut technology is used for concrete driveways, providing channels for the heat cable, and then special epoxy is used to seal the cable in the driveway. For existing asphalt driveways, the heat cable is placed over the old asphalt and a new layer of asphalt is then applied directly over the cable. (Contact Warmzone to learn more about our special asphalt heating cable.) Talk to a radiant heat professional today to learn more about retrofitting your driveway or other areas with radiant heat. Call 888-488-9276 today.

Warmzone maintains relationships with experienced, positively reviewed installers throughout the country, so regardless of your location, we may be able to recommend a qualified installer in your area. If you have any questions during your installation, please don’t hesitate to call one of our support staff. We are here for you, so take advantage of the training and personal support.

The Premier Roof De-icing Solution

Keeping roofs well maintained and free of ice dams during the winter is crucial for the longevity of both residential and commercial structures. Preventing ice dams and keeping roof edges and gutters clear of heavy snow and ice can also play an important role in enhancing safety for pedestrian traffic. When roof ice is neglected, icicles can break free and tumble onto unsuspecting people below, as well as drip and cause thin sheets of black ice to develop on sidewalks. Needless to say, this can be particularly problematic for business owners as they struggle to keep their commercial properties safe and profitable during the cold winter months.

While many roof de-icing options are available for residential and commercial applications, one in particular has distinguished itself from the others. The low-voltage RoofHeat™ STEP® system features a unique semi-conductive polymer heating element. The thin, flexible panels can be installed discreetly under shingles as well as metal roofs. The system operates on low voltage, and does not require a ground fault switch. The RoofHeat STEP de-icing roof heating system provides remarkable performance and efficiency, and has established itself as one of the most trusted and comprehensive roof de-icing solutions available. The system’s performance and ease of installation have made it a favorite among roofing professionals.

These systems are especially effective in controlling and eliminating ice dams. Ice dams form as a result of warm air escaping from the home into the attic, causing the bottom layer of snow on the roof to melt. The water trickles down to the roof eaves, but because there is no warm attic under the eaves, the water refreezes near the roof’s edge. Over time, more and more water runs down to the eave and freezes, causing a ridge of ice to form. Eventually, the ice dam causes the melted snow to collect behind it, resulting in pools of water on the roof eaves. The water in these pools can seep into tiny cracks and imperfections in the roof, causing more imperfections as it expands during the refreezing process.

About the System

The low-voltage roof de-icing solution utilizes a transformer to power the system. The transformer steps down high voltage to low voltage (60 V or less), and monitors the power and output of the self-regulating heating element to ensure safe, optimal performance.

Low-voltage radiant heating element.

The heating element (just 3/64-inch thick) features an impermeable membrane that is polypropylene fused during fabrication to achieve water proofing and protection from alkaline or salt damage. It is available in widths of 3, 6, 9 or 12-inches, making this system versatile enough to be installed to heat large areas, roof valleys, intricate trouble spots, and even in roof gutters.

RoofHeat STEP lightweight panels are easy to install and can be cut to size on the job site. During installation, the heating element can also be nailed or stapled through, making installation quicker and easier than other traditional roof heating systems. Additionally, the roof heating system is self-regulating, which means that when the ambient temperature rises, the electrical resistance increases and the consumption of electricity decreases, preventing the element from overheating, and ensuring energy-efficient operation.

Some basic features and benefits of the self-regulating, low-voltage roof de-icing system include:

  • Proven performance
  • Low-voltage
  • Self-regulating
  • Thin: 3/64-inch (1.2 mm) thick
  • Lightweight: 0.23 lb per foot (0.34 kg/m)
  • Operates quietly and efficiently
  • Versatile: Works under asphalt, shake, and tile shingles, and metal roofs. The system can be installed to heat roof eaves, valleys, gutters, or even the entire roof.
  • The heating element can be nailed or stapled through (Avoid nailing through the bus braids.)
  • Discreet: The heating element is installed under the roofing.
  • Construction: Rugged positive temperature coefficient (PTC) semi-conductive polymer with an impermeable membrane outer coating that is polypropylene fused
  • 10-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects
  • ETL (NRTL) listed

Low-voltage RoofHeat STEP systems are typically controlled by the STEP Touch Thermostat (activation device). The thermostat is designed for simple two-control functionality for ease of operation and features a 3-digit, auto-dim LED display. The versatile Touch sensor controls are maintenance free and capable of working seamlessly with all Warmzone radiant heat systems, and can interface with smart home systems as well. All settings are stored in permanent memory for instant recovery in the event of a power failure (no batteries are needed).

While the STEP Touch Thermostat is the recommended activation device for the low-voltage de-icing system, it can also utilize Warmzone’s advanced aerial-mount activation device. A variety of options exist, so talk with one of our radiant heat experts and we’ll be happy to help determine the best configuration and controls for your system.

Warmzone’s new controller offers basic Wi-Fi functionality, and can communicate the status of the controller to the user, relaying information so the user can choose how they would like the system to proceed. This is a feature previously not available. For example, when the control unit is activated it sends a notification to the app on your phone, and you can then decide to ignore it or turn it off if you do not want the system to run. It will also send you a notification if it detects a problem with the system’s activation device. This is currently the only Wi-Fi controller available for radiant snow melting systems.

The Wi-Fi snow melting system control unit works with an aerial-mount or in-ground snow sensor to automatically detect snow or ice and activate the system to prevent any snow from accumulating. The unit is compact, and easily installed on a wall in the garage or utility room.

Wi-Fi Control Unit Features:

  • Automatic snow/ice detection
  • Compatible with both in-slab and retrofit aerial sensors
  • Tandem snow/ice detection
  • Operates hydronic or electric on/off systems
  • Supports multiple zones with priority
  • Warm weather shut down
  • Cold weather cutoff
  • Idling and manual storm for quick response
  • Automatic software updates
  • EconoMelt function

Automated snow melting systems operate only when needed, providing efficient, ‘round-the-clock protection to prevent snow and ice from accumulating. In addition to a controller like Warmzone’s Wi-Fi Snow Melting System Controller, the systems typically feature industry-leading ClearZone heat cable and an advanced in-ground or aerial-mounted snow sensor. (Warmzone also offers hydronic (water-based) snow melting systems.)

The snow sensors are capable of detecting precipitation as well as temperature, so when conditions warrant, the sensor triggers the control unit, which then sends power to the embedded heating cable.

Radiant snow melting systems are commonly used to heat residential driveways and sidewalks, as well as commercial properties. The systems not only eliminate the need to shovel, plow or salt the area, but enhance safety, which is of paramount importance for business owners.

Warmzone Introduces the Labor-Saving EcoTrace™ Single-feed Contactor Panels

Salt Lake City, Utah (PR WEB) February 1, 2021 – Warmzone, a leading provider of interior and exterior radiant heat systems, announces the release of its new EcoTrace™ 100 and 200-amp single-feed snow melting system contactor panels. Lauded by homeowners and industry professionals alike, the single-feed panels offer the potential for significant savings when it comes to the installation of radiant snow melting systems.

The cost-saving benefits of the SF100 and SF200 single-feed panels are realized by dramatically reducing the labor demands during the installation of the system. The industry’s typical contactor panels usually require the electrician to run several circuits from the home’s breaker box to the snow melting system’s contactor panel. This process can take considerable time and materials, adding to the installation cost. However, with the EcoTrace panels electricians need only to route one circuit from the home’s breaker box.

The EcoTrace SF100 and SF200 single-feed panels are self-contained with contactors, GFEP protection, and in-line fuses. Instead of running multiple circuits to the contactor panel, the electrician can run a single circuit, thereby saving hours (and possibly days in installation labor for larger systems). The single-feed contactors can also eliminate the need for a sub-panel.

The new EcoTrace panels represent a technological breakthrough to electricians by addressing their age old power-feed concern. The availability of the SF100 and SF200 panels grant homeowners greater flexibility by providing a labor-saving option that was previously unavailable.

“The engineering of these advanced panels is state-of-the-art,” stated Jim Sage, an electrical expert and Warmzone’s senior radiant heat system designer. “The SF100 and SF200 panels were designed to save electricians a lot of time, which can translate into a significant cost savings for homeowners. We’re excited to offer them to our customers.”
